January 2012 From the Prez

January 2012

Happy New Year to GMMUG!

First, an embarrassing oops. Katy sent out my announcement for the GMMUG planning meeting just as I sent it to her, for January 30th. When I really meant December 30th. Needless to say, when I showed up at Jesse’s house last Friday, he and I were the only ones that were present. And I expect Jesse was there only because he lives there. *sigh*

At any rate, Tuesday’s meeting will be Q and A. I have to be back home by 8:30, and Jesse has kindly agreed to finish off the meeting when it is time for me to go. On the 16th of January, I’ll be presenting on setting up to use Windows on your Mac. Not sure if anyone will come to that meeting 😉 I’ll cover Boot Camp and using Parallels. Due to time constraints, I’ll have Windows 7 already installed in Boot Camp, but it will still be possible to demo how it’s done.

I’d still like to have a formal planning meeting. Perhaps the last Friday in January, if that will work for Jesse. I have received plenty of ideas, and Jesse and I came up with some as well. What we would like is to get a couple other members to step up and present a program.

In no particular order, here are some ideas that have been floated.
Mesa County library; Adobe Illustrator; web page design; MacGPS Pro, or some- thing exploring the capabilities of the iPhone; hard Disk maintenance and trouble- shooting; Lion apps, including Preview, TextEdit, Font Book, Disk Utility; getting videos on your iPhone/iPad; intro to Lion; iCloud; preparing for and doing an OS upgrade; more on the iPad; Compiling an address book and printing labels; and strategies for organizing your files. I also would like to learn more about backup strategies, especially online services.

So, if any of these topics fits your area of expertise, volunteer!

See you on Tuesday, Andrew
